Business and Industry Awards (2008) A Business and Industry Award is presented to those businesses and individuals that have donated a tremendous amount of time and energy or equipment and supplies to help us better serve the youth in the Katahdin Area Council. Jeff’s Catering, Inc. The Council recognizes Jeff Ashey and his staff for their untiring commitment of service to the Summer Camp program and the youth that participate each summer. Jeff’s Catering has been a partner with the Katahdin Area Council since 1998 providing one of the key elements for a successful camp. Jeff has been willing to work with us to meet the dietary needs of the campers and leaders that attend each summer. The Council thanks Jeff’s Catering for making Camp Roosevelt one of the best camps in the Northeast Region. North Maine Woods, Inc. North Maine Woods Inc. was formed in the early 1970’s by the large landowners of the Maine wood industry to foster and manage recreational access to the working forests of Maine. One of its founders, John Sinclair, was probably the single person who had the most to do with forming Maine National High Adventure Area. NMW and MNHAA formed a partnership enabling Boy Scouts from around the nation to enjoy the Maine woods. When MNHAA became Maine High Adventure, NMW was there to continue the relationship. Al Cowperthwaite, the Exec. Director of NMW, not only was willing to continue the relationship between the two organizations, but joined the Board of Governors of MHA, later serving as Chairman. In the post-National BSA era, NMW also formed an agreement with MHA to share and maintain the radio system that MHA owned. Although NMW benefits from the arrangement, they also provide maintenance of the radio repeater system that has saved MHA tens of thousands of dollars over the years. NMW, and Al Cowperthwaite personally, have also provided support and materials to MHA on countless occasions when other needs and projects have arisen. Peavey Manufacturing, Inc.
Peavey Manufacturing for many years have kept the wood industry supplied with a number of tools necessary to harvest logs for the paper and saw mills of Maine. For years they have donated time and materials to the Katahdin Area Council’s Camp Roosevelt. They have supported the Camp Ranger with ax and hammer handles, dowels and many other items and materials when needed. They not only donated the handles, but went the extra step and mounted them. Peavey has also donated countless hours and material to support the Handicraft area at camp. Each year they cut and drill all the materials to make 120 kits for the camp stools. In additional they donated all the dowels needed to make a large variety of wood projects. When you call Rodney for assistant he is always willing and ready to support the Boy Scouts of the Katahdin Area Council. |
