More information to come soon!
Camp Roosevelt interesting facts.
The area we know as Camp Roosevelt was obtained by the Council in 1921. It was originally 50 acres. In it first year there was a mess Building, 5 Tent floors and a 20x20 swimming float with diving board. The Log Dining Hall, which is now the Pamola Lodge, was constructed on site in 1929. It was not finished on time as required by the Contract. It was not an old Lumber Camp Dining Lodge as legend has been told down through the years.
The Camp capacity for Scouts attending Camp was limited to 32 Scouts per week in 1926. In 1927 it was increased to 64 per week and in 1928 it increased to 128 Scouts per week. In the early 2000s the Camp Capacity has increased to handle more 350 youth and staff per week.
More information can be found in the Camp Roosevelt History, published in February 2010 by Gordon Reynolds. Copies are available at the Council Office and will soon be available on the this Web Page.
Can you Help? We are looking for historical memorabilia to add to the history of the Council and improve the items in our Museum Collection. Do you have or do you know of anyone who has the following;
The Red and White Community Shoulder Strips worn on the uniform prior the current Council Strip. We are looking for any Community Strips from 1925 through 1970.
Does anyone have Copies of the Council News Letters, WANGAN and the Log prior to 1985? We would really like to have these on file!
If you have any of these items or any other items of interest please let us know by contacting me at sfrost5290@roadrunner.com
