2010 National Scout Jamboree

What is the National Scout Jamboree?
Every four years, the National Council of the Boy Scouts of America organizes the ultimate Boy Scout experience, the National Scout Jamboree! In 2005, over 40,000 Scouts and Scouters attended the Jamboree. Activities include: rifle shooting, scuba diving, fishing, trapshooting, canoe slalom, rappelling towers, pioneering, kayaking, a huge merit badge midway, daily stage shows, and much, much more!

Qualifications:
It is anticipated that a Scout must have completed the sixth grade or be at least 12 years old by July 1, 2010; attain the rank of First Class by July 1, 2010; have a completed Class 3 National Scout Jamboree physical issued to each participant by the national office of the BSA; participate in the pre-jamboree training; be active in his troop six months prior to July 1, 2010; and be approved by his Scoutmaster and the Jamboree Committee of the Katahdin Area Council. His 18th birthday may not be before September 1st, 2010.

Organization, Transportation, Food and Equipment:
Participants will be placed in one of 3 Katahdin Area Council Boy Scout troops. Once troops are formed and leaders are selected, participants will receive information through the Jamboree Troop Scoutmaster. Each troop consisting of 36 Scouts and four adult leaders.

IMPORTANT FACT: While your local Scout troop may visit the Jamboree on certain days, only Council contingent Jamboree troops camp at the Jamboree and only Council contingent Jamboree Scouts are allowed to participate in Jamboree activities.

Cost:
The total estimated cost for youth participants will be between $1,300 and $1,600. This fee includes transportation to and from the Jamboree, special patches, patrol and troop equipment, and food for the Jamboree training weekends.

Application:
Due to the 100th Anniversary, an overwhelming response is expected. You will need to apply early to ensure your place in line, as spaces will be filled on a first-come first-served basis. While the official applications for the 2010 National Scout Jamboree are not yet available, you may ensure your place in line by downloading the "HOLD MY SPOT" application, filling it out, and returning it to the Council Service Center with your $100.00 deposit.
