From the Scout Executive

Greetings Scouters!

I would like to introduce myself as Gary Savignano, the new Scout Executive for the Katahdin Area Council, BSA. This is a wonderful opportunity for me professionally, as well as for my family. I look forward to working with the great staff and the committed volunteers of the Katahdin Area Council! The Katahdin Area Council has a strong tradition of Scouting and I am proud to have the opportunity to be associated with it.

Serving in the position of Scout Executive I will have the opportunity to support our Executive Board in their attempts to provide strong program support to our districts and the units of KAC. A major function will be to support the efforts of the Executive Board to have a fiscally strong council now and for years to come. The Katahdin Area Council has been blessed with camping facilities which are second-to-none. Dedicated volunteers have assured us of that and it is our duty to continue their legacy. I will also have the opportunity to work with and support the efforts of our professional and support staff as they strive to support each and every Scouting unit in our council. Scouting is a growth organization and one of our major goals will be to make sure each and every young person of scouting age has the opportunity to belong our Scouting family.

These goals may seem lofty; however I am confident that with the support of talented volunteers and a committed staff, together we can achieve these goals together. We are up to the challenge!

This summer is a great opportunity to attend one of our many excellent camping programs. Growing up in Maine youth have a great opportunity to be outside. But where else do they have the opportunity learn how to shoot a bow and arrow with trained instructors? Learn how to safely shoot a rifle and shotgun, kayak, canoe the whitewater or portaging in the great Northern Maine Woods? Cub Scouts have many opportunities to camp with their parents at Pal and me and have all the camp programs available for Cub Scouts, attend a Day Camp or resident Scout Camp. This summer take advantage of one of the finest Scout Camps in the country at Roosevelt or if you are 14 and over (boys and girls) take advantage of the Maine High Adventure Base. It will be an adventure of a lifetime.

I look forward to meeting you! If you happen to be at the service center, please stop by to say hello.
