What's Inside
May 2008
From the President’s Corner;

Hello Scouts and Scouters!  It has been a while since we last published our WANGAN; I hope you all take the time to read every article and provide us feedback as to it content and quality. We need the Feedback to ensure we provide what your expectations require.

Congratulations to All!

Katahdin Areas Council has earned a 2007 Centennial Award! This is a result of your hard Work and dedication by everyone of you!  Congratulations and Thanks!  Let us do it again in 2008!

Council Scout Executive

As you are all aware our outstanding Scout Executive Rich Avery has been promoted to Syracuse, NY.  This is a great opportunity for Rich.  And a huge challenge! May he have great success!  We have hired Gary Savignano as our new Council Executive. We will publish more information about Gary and his background and experience very soon.  We are confident that Gary can lead us to the next level and provide us with the guidance and direction for success.

Membership

We as a Council are currently providing our program to only 18% of the youth in our area.  I would like to think we can far exceed that number by providing an out standing program.  Membership and program go hand in glove.  The better the Cub and Boy Scout program, the more fun experienced, the greater the Family involvement, the more youth will join scouting.  All of us, both professional and volunteers must work to ensure we “Keep the Promise” we have committed to our youth and their families.  We need your dedication, and hard work to grow.  We can’t do it all, by ourselves.

Volunteers

We need more volunteers to spread the work load.  If you know of anyone who may be willing to join as an adult leader or who wants to get involved in improving their community ask them to join Scouting.  We need their help! There are many vacancies at the District and Unit levels. Success of Scouting in your unit and community is dependent on adults stepping forward and becoming involved in the lives and environment of the area youth.  Compliancy and isolationist views will lead only to great dysfunction and disenfranchising our citizens, parents, and young people from making this a better and securer world for all.  Time to make a difference!

Family Fun

For scouting to succeed at all levels, it must be a Family Program!  A boy does well in scouting because of family involvement and commitment.  Keep your Unit and District Families involved thru communications, quality program and fun family events.  Include families in Pack and Troop activities.  Create Outing Adventures for every age group to include siblings and friends. Don’t let brothers and sisters sit on the side lines.  Make them a part of your Scouting family.  Who knows, you may even enjoy doing some of these activities yourself!

Well enough pontificating for now!  Keep the Scouting Spirit and we will see you along the trail!
