In February 2010, the Boy Scouts of America will celebrate 100 years as an organization. Founded as an outlet to prepare every eligible youth in America to become a participating citizen and leader, BSA has more than fulfilled its mission. Today, as we celebrate our first 100 years, we not on only reflect on our rich history, but lay the foundation for a strong future, as well. The Katahdin Area Council, Boy Scouts of America is recognized with the prestigious “Centennial Quality Council” designation for 2007.
The council received this recognition under the leadership of Stephen Frost, Council President, Douglas Hitching Council Commissioner and Richard Avery, Council Scout Executive as well as a commited group of volunteers at the unit, district and council level!
It's only through a lot of hard work from volunteers and professionals alike that a Council can meet the requirements. Everyone in the Council helped in their own way toward our reaching this goal, so everyone in the Council should be proud of this achievement.
In order to receive this recognition, the council achieved an increased market share in youth served, successful fundraising and offered quality programs. The council utilized its Camp Roosevelt and hosted several activities to ensure the Scouts were advancing. Congratulations are in order for all volunteers that helped to support this achievement! The Katahdin Area Council 2008 efforts for quality are well underway!
