2020 Camp Roosevelt Resident Camp Covid-19 Update

Dear KAC Scouters,

It is with great regret to inform you that due to the great concerns over the COVID-19 virus and with input from the Roosevelt Advisory Committee (RAC), the decision was made by the KAC Executive Board to not operate Camp Roosevelt for the 2020 summer season.

The health and safety of our campers, volunteer leaders, staff and the communities that come from are of paramount importance and Camp Roosevelt has performed quite well in these areas throughout the years.  However, COVID-19 has presented some significant challenges that could be quite detrimental in delivering a quality program to our Scouts along with many unknown guidelines/restrictions from the State of Maine that are yet to be determined.

We had hoped “to be the beacon in the fog” for our Scouts this summer, the many uncertainties and restrictions, regarding  COVID-19 leads us to believe that operating camp in such an environment would possibly post a threat to our campers, adult leaders and camp staff, especially those who may be classified as one of the high-risk categories.

Rest assured that while Camp Roosevelt will not operate in 2020, plans are underway to make 2021, Camp Roosevelt’s 100th Anniversary, the best summer camp season ever! Ross and Jacob are already making plans to continue on with their efforts to offer a great program, and to ensure that we can guarantee to the best of our ability, a safe week at camp.

Camp fees that have been paid to date are refundable and can be applied to the 2021 season, other activities, or unit account for store purchases, registration/recharter fees, etc.
